Congratulations! You impressed an employer and received a job offer. Even though this is your first job, it’s time for negotiation.

“It’s not easy to navigate the job offer,” said Career Center Assistant Director Susan Whitsitt. “There is a lot that both the candidate and the employer need to consider. Job offers are not solely about what the employer wants to provide, but can be tailored to benefit employees as well. The key is to know how to discuss offers to make them a win-win situation, and having the confidence to work through it.”

Redbirds can learn how to more effectively negotiate their salaries and be confident in the conversation at the Career Center’s Negotiating Your First Job. It will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, in 110P Student Services Building.

The event will focus on paving the way for students and alumni to negotiate their salaries. A panel of experts in the field of human resources will share when and how to ask for a higher starting salary, flex time, benefits, and other criteria important to you as an employee.

Open to all majors, the event’s goal is to help Redbirds feel more confident and empowered as they head into their first job. Reservations are required and can be made by contacting the Career Center.
