Technology Day at Illinois State University was started in 2001. It is a one-day series of STEM-based, simultaneous, hands-on competitive events, typically drawing between 300 to 400 middle and secondary students. The 17th Annual Technology Day 2017 was held October 13 at Illinois State University.

Each year, the competitions are different in scope, but similar to what other students in academic areas such as mathematics and science compete in. Each competition has Level 1 (sixth to ninth grades) and Level 2 (10th to 12th grades) components. Each competition is based on the Standards for Technological Literacy: Content for the Study of Technology, Common Core Mathematics Standards, and the Next Generation Science Standards.

Schools do not have to hold official Technology Student Association (TSA) affiliation to compete at Technology Day. Associate Professor Josh Brown, Ph.D., IL-TSA postsecondary representative was in charge of this year’s Technology Day.

The Technology Student Association’s mission “is to prepare our membership for the challenges of a dynamic world by promoting technological literacy, leadership, and problem solving, resulting in personal growth and opportunity.”
