Gregory Simpson

College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Dean Gregory Simpson has announced he will retire June 30. The announcement of an interim dean for CAS will be made during the spring 2018 semester.

Simpson arrived at Illinois State as dean in 2011 after nearly 20 years at the University of Kansas, where he served in the positions of professor, chair of psychology, and interim dean. During his time leading CAS, he oversaw 18 departments and programs in the three areas of humanities, natural sciences and mathematics, and social sciences. With a focus on faculty, he developed innovative recruiting strategies and established mentoring programs for new and mid-career faculty.

“For over six years, Dean Simpson has made many contributions to campus and to the College of Arts and Sciences,” said Jan Murphy, interim vice president for Academic Affairs and provost. “His focus on the hiring and retention of exceptional faculty members has been crucial to student success. He has been involved in the University’s strategic plan, Educating Illinois, and has fostered interdisciplinary educational and research opportunities across departments and schools in CAS. His influence will be felt for years to come.”
