If you’re thinking about finding a job on-campus or after graduation, your résumé is probably on your mind. How will you transfer the skills from your academic career to the industry? And how will you set yourself apart from other candidates? Do I need to write a new résumé for every job for which I apply? Just asking these questions can be exhausting, let alone finding the time to answer them.

The last event of the Fall 2017 series will focus on resume writing in order to help international students succeed in today’s competitive job market.

Noon-1 p.m. Friday, November 10, in 110P Student Services Building international students will learn how to draft a general résumé and how to tailor it for part-time jobs, internships, assistantships, or full-time positions.

A résumé is a brief document that summarizes your education, employment history, and experiences that are relevant to your qualifications for a particular job for which you are applying. The purpose of a résumé (along with your cover letter) is to get a job interview. Research has shown that it takes an average of ten interviews to receive one job offer, so your résumé needs to be persuasive and free of errors. The upcoming workshop will help you to figure out what information to include in order to interest employers.

The International Student Career Series was designed by ISU’s Career Center and International Student and Scholar Services in order to provide important information on resume crafting, job applications and visa procedures for all international students who wish to work in the U.S.
