Honors
The School of Communication was recently honored by the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) as a recognizable force on a college campus for integrating civic engagement into majors. The school, which is one of only 22 across the country to be recognized, will be featured in an upcoming issue of the AAC&U publication, Peer Review.

Presentations
Seon-Yoon Chung, MCN, presented the poster “Factors Influencing Gastrointestinal Microbiota During Pregnancy,” at Sigma Theta Tau International, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Katherine Ellison, ENG, presented “Cryptography and the Early Modern Literacy Counterrevolution” at the National Security Agency (NSA) Symposium on Cryptologic History in Baltimore, Maryland.

Illinois State University was represented at the 95th annual conference of the Illinois Association of Collegiate Records and Admissions Officers (IACRAO).  Jess Ray, Registrar, and Shantira Norris, Dean of Students, presented “Serving those that Serve: Understanding Our Military-Connected Students.”  Ray also co-presented “Graduation Nuts and Bolts,” and took part in a roundtable discussion, “Military Prior Learning Assessment Task Force and the passing of Public Act 99-0395.” Barb Dallinger, EMDH, presented “Creating a Culture of Caring.”

Lisa Szczepura, CHE, co-presented with graduate students Wade Wilson and Daniel Huh “Preparation of Transition Metal Cluster Complexes Containing NHC Ligands” at the 2017 Midwest Regional Meeting at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

Publications
Karen Coats, ENG, wrote the chapter “Teaching the Conflicts: Diverse Responses to Diverse Children’s Books” for The Edinburgh Companion to Children’s Literature, Edinburgh University Press.

Amy Robillard, ENG, published “Our Work Burns Like the Sun” in Full Grown People.

Fred Smith, ANT, co-authored “Paleolithic hominins and settlement in Croatia from MIS 6 to MIS 3: Research history and current interpretations” for the Quarterly International.
