Marcia Young, former director of the David Davis Mansion, will give a presentation titled, “It’s not about the Ghosts! Charles Dickens and the Invention of Christmas” for the University Club at 4:30 p.m. Friday, December 1, in the Founders Suite of the Bone Student Center.

Only country musicians and rock stars are as wildly popular today as the English novelist Charles Dickens was in his time. One hundred seventy-four years after it was published, one of his novels is still very much a part of the popular culture. Find out who “invented” Christmas and discover the true meaning of A Christmas Carol.

All faculty, staff, annuitants, and guests are welcome to attend University Club, which runs from 3:30-5:30 p.m. The Office of the Provost and the Office of the President provide continued program support. Snacks and refreshments will also be available.

For special accommodations or additional information on U-Club events, contact the University Club at (309) 438-7933 or email.
