Tim Bassett is a regional director of facilities for Advocate Health Care, the largest health system in Illinois. In this role, he oversees all facility maintenance and operations for Advocate properties in the central Illinois region including Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Advocate Eureka Hospital and Advocate BroMenn Outpatient Center. During his seven years with Advocate, he has managed over $120 million in capital construction projects while implementing the organization’s facility master plan.

Bassett graduated from Illinois State University with a bachelor of science degree in construction management in 2009. He later obtained a master of business administration degree from Southern Illinois University in 2016. Bassett currently serves on many local committees and non-profit boards, including the Illinois State University Construction Management Advisory Board. He is also a 2016 recipient of the Pantagraph and McLean County Chamber of Commerce’s 20 under 40 award. He has served as an officer for the Central Illinois Chapter of Healthcare Engineers since 2013, as well as chair of the scholarship committee for the organization. The organization has awarded multiple scholarships to aspiring healthcare design, construction, and engineering professionals. Tim has maintained a strong relationship with the Department of Technology as an active alumnus by assisting with student competition groups, guest lecturing, and most recently as an adjunct faculty member. He currently resides in the Bloomington-Normal area with wife Jenna and their three daughters Ellysia, Eyla, and Emilia.

Prior to beginning his career in facility operations, planning, design, and construction, Bassett served on active duty as an infantryman in the United States Army, including deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Bassett credits his success to three virtues he developed during his military service; being resourceful, maintaining a willingness to learn, and an ability to adapt to change. He is incredibly proud to be associated with Illinois State University and the Department of Technology. He feels the Construction Management Program has a good reputation in the industry, and the Construction Management Alumni base is strong and involved in the program. Our students consistently raise the bar and represent the institution incredibly well.

His advice to current students is “don’t pull the ladder up behind you” and President Larry Dietz’s quote “give your time, talent, and/or treasure as you are able.”
