Jeff Wagman, Ph.D., PSY visited two classes of second-graders at Thomas Metcalf School February 7 to teach a short course on “Perception and the Brain.”

Wagman exhibited a collection of MRI images and a model of a brain as part of the course. The students, who included Wagman’s son Connor, discussed the role of the sense organs and brain in learning about the world. They also participated in several different demonstrations on perception by vision, hearing, and touch.

“They were especially interested in how prism glasses change the perceived locations of objects and in 3D sound effects,” said Wagman.

This and other Metcalf PTO Mini courses provide opportunities for parents or community members to teach a topic of his or her expertise to students in a chosen grade at Thomas Metcalf School.
