Introduction to Fulbright Awards

Get an introduction to the Fulbright Scholar program. Learn about the different types of awards available and their requirements. You’ll learn how to search for the best award for your work and begin to identify an award for future application. Participants will also understand the timeline of the Fulbright application process. Introduction to ReggieNet – Part 1
Tuesday, February 6 • 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Get a walkthrough of the ReggieNet interface and the basics of organizing your particular courses. Learn how to organize and display student grades in Gradebook 2. Communicate with students through Announcements, Messages, and Email. Add content to your course site using Syllabus and the Resources tool. Note: We strongly encourage you to also attend Introduction to ReggieNet – Part 2, which covers other important tools. OneDrive: Getting Started
Wednesday, February 7 • 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Take your projects on the go using Microsoft Office apps for iOS, Android, and Windows mobile devices through OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud-based storage, free for members of the campus community. Learn how to share documents through OneDrive and discuss how to use this service within the boundaries of Illinois State data security policies and FERPA. Bring your smartphone or tablet with you to get the most out of this workshop. Registration is required.

eLearning a la Carte: Web-Enhance Your Traditional Course
Wednesday, February 7 • 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Enhance your traditional course by posting information and resources, delivering content, and fostering student interaction online. In this session, you’ll create an outline of components you typically include in your traditional course. Then, using this outline, you’ll be able to create a plan to organize and manage information, evaluate student learning, supplement in-class materials, interact with students beyond time and space limitations.

CTLT’s eLearning a la Carte series can help you design and teach high quality online, blended, or web-enhanced courses. This series is hands-on and interactive, so each eLearning a la Carte workshop is limited to 20 faculty members. These interactive sessions will use Zoom, a browser-based conferencing platform. You do not need to create an account to participate. Registration is required.

CTLT’s Early-Career Faculty Circles offer faculty in their first three years of service at Illinois State a combination of professional development and peer support. Join us for a series of lively conversations about surviving and thriving in the academy.

Topics for the Spring 2018 semester are drawn from the book Facilitating Seven Ways of Learning by James R. Davis and Bridget D. Arend. The text introduces a conceptual approach for selecting appropriate teaching strategies for different types of content and for achieving specific learning objectives. Davis and Arend demonstrate how a focused and purposeful selection of activities improves student performance and makes for a more effective and satisfying teaching experience. Participants will receive a copy of the book and an executive summary of each chapter. No registration necessary.

Screencast-O-Matic is inexpensive, web-based software that allows you to record and narrate videos from your desktop. This workshop explores how to use this service to create material for a flipped, blended, or online course.  Registration is required.

Camtasia: Level 1
Thursday, February 8 • 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Do you want to add your voice to a PowerPoint presentation and make it available to your students online? Learn to use Camtasia, a screen-recording program that lets you narrate PowerPoint presentations, still images, or videos. You will also learn how to upload the final product so students can access it.  Registration is required.

Future Professors Professional Development Circle
Friday, February 9 • 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Explore pedagogical issues, effective and disruptive teaching strategies, and gain confidence in your ability to teach at the college level. This professional development circle helps graduate students to teach in the academy, whether they are currently teaching, working as a teaching assistant, or considering teaching as a career path. Share teaching tips, tricks, and get support from other future professors. Discussions for spring will be based on chapters from What the Best College Teachers Do by Ken Bain; however, there is no required reading to participate. No registration is necessary.
