Illinois State University senior actors have an exciting event ahead. On Monday, May 7, soon-to-be-graduates of the acting program will take part in the Actor Showcase, a one-night performance in front of Chicago agents and cast directors. Hosted by the Illinois State University School of Theatre and Dance and the Alumni Association, this annual event is a superb showcase of talent, highlighting the creative abilities of the University’s gifted acting students from the class of 2018.

The Actor Showcase is an important opportunity for future acting professionals to make connections with those currently working in the field. The evening is also an established ISU alumni event, bringing the prolific Chicago theatre scene together for entertainment and networking.

The Actor Showcase is open to the public and is a free event; however, advance registration is required. No tickets will be mailed—a reservation list will be checked at the door. If you would like to attend, register online at Alumni.IllinoisState.edu/Actors or contact Alumni Relations at Alumni@IllinoisState.edu or (309) 438-2586. The registration deadline is 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 30.

This year’s Showcase will be held at Theater Wit, located at 1229 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago, IL 60657. Directions and parking information can be found on the Theater Wit’s website.

The Showcase runs 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., followed by an hors d’oeuvres reception and cash bar from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

A lot of work goes into preparing for the showcase. The acting students must first audition for the opportunity, much like professional auditions they may attend after graduating. If chosen to perform, the actors work with professors Lori Adams and Connie de Veer to select monologues, songs, and even outfits to best represent their abilities. We look forward to sharing this night of talent and community with you!
