CSD Team takes first place at the ISHA College Bowl
The night of February 9, 2018, brought excitement and thrill to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center when the College Bowl was held as part of the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ISHA) Convention in Rosemont, Illinois. Graduate students from nine universities across the state of Illinois participated in the College Bowl. Illinois State speech-language pathology graduate students Lindsey Loos, Terra Horn, Kali Riddell, and Victoria Berto were the members of our team. Julie Burns, one of the CSD Clinical Educators, served as Mentor. We were very pleased that the team won first place in the event.
Lindsey described the competition as somewhat like Jeopardy, “Teams of up to four students, from different colleges, were provided questions and given cards with letter choices. We were asked to hold up our answer choices throughout the three rounds, with the final round consisting of one question where we could choose to bet points.” Teams were able to choose different categories from which questions were drawn. These categories ranged from Speech Sound Disorders to Evidence-Based Practice and Dysphagia.
Horn said, “The college bowl is a great way for students from multiple schools to meet each other, and is a good way for each of us to test our knowledge.” As a participant of the College Bowl, students not only represent their universities, but also showcase the knowledge that they have obtained throughout their college careers. Congratulations to the ISU team on representing us so well!
