Jaimie Kent, who completed a graduate degree from the Department of Politics and Government during spring semester 2017, is the College of Arts and Sciences recipient of the James L. Fisher Outstanding Thesis award. She was recognized at an awards ceremony held on Monday, April 9.

Kent, who also completed an undergraduate degree in political science at Illinois State, was recognized for her outstanding thesis, which is titled Rights of Nature and the Political Implications of Post-Humanist Ecologies.
“Kent’s thesis is an exemplary model of politically engaged scholarship on an issue of vital contemporary concern,” thesis committee chair Professor Kam Shapiro said.
The thesis grapples with a complex body of theoretical literature and focuses on critical contemporary social and political issues. As Shapiro notes, this makes it a thesis project that “not only has scholarly merit, but also vital contemporary relevance”.
