Homecoming 2017 was a major success for Student Alumni Council (SAC)!

The weekend before Homecoming, we did our tradition of painting local business and restaurants’ windows in the Bloomington-Normal area. Other registered student organizations (RSOs) helped us out, and the almost 40 windows brought out the Redbird Homecoming spirit!

On Wednesday of Homecoming week, we participated in Redbird Rumble, a mock Olympic-style event featuring various RSOs. We had fun completely various activities such as a shoe toss and catching a rubber chicken. On Friday of Homecoming week, we painted outlines of Reggie’s Feet along University St. leading under the tunnel all the way towards Hancock Stadium. Do you remember doing this? This SAC tradition makes it easy for fans to spot where to walk to get to the stadium.

SAC always participates in the Homecoming Parade by building a float all wee long for all to see on Homecoming Saturday. We decided this year we would incorporate the Bone Student Center’s revitalization into our float to go with the Homecoming theme of Building a Legacy. Our float featured Reggie in a hard hat working on remodeling the Bone complete with a crane! After spending many hours on our float, we ended up winning first place in the RSO float competition. Everyone was so proud of our hard work, and we enjoyed our victory.

Speaking of victory, the last thing we did to make this a Homecoming to remember was ring the victory bell during the Homecoming football game! We had eight awesome SACers volunteer to ring the victory bell for every Redbird touchdown. Not only did we ring the bell, but we also watched the game from the best seats in the house–up close and personal on the field.
