Three bins filled with toothbrushes, paper towels, soap and other items for teenagers in temporary housing.

Supplies collected for Project Oz teens through the Civil Service Council Spring Drive.

The Civil Service (CS) Council would like to thank the campus community for the caring response in collecting items for Project Oz. These items will be used to help set up households for homeless or runaway youth and teach them life skills. “A little bit can go a long way in letting these young people know that someone cares for them,” said Hayley Helpingstine, who coordinated the collection for the CS Council.

Project Oz has been assisting youth and families since 1973. The organization provides crisis intervention and mentoring for young people in McLean and Livingston counties who are homeless or who are “housing distressed” and need a temporary place to stay.

Helpingstine reminded all faculty and staff to visit the Project Oz website to learn more about the organization or ways to help. Like the organization on Facebook to receive updates on progress and discover ways Project Oz is involved in the Bloomington/Normal Area.
