Illinois State University announced the appointment of Christa Platt as the new director of Diversity Advocacy.

“Dr. Platt’s successful history with Illinois State, her experience inspiring students, and her academic prowess will help continue the vital role Diversity Advocacy plays in the University’s mission,” said Dean of Students John Davenport. “We’re lucky to have her with us.”

Platt’s research and professional journey is committed to equity work and service to those who have been historically marginalized. Her work includes the student first-year experience, underrepresented STEM students, African American schooling experiences, and critical race theory. Her work has been recognized with the University Assessment Initiative Award which she used to understand the factors that influence success for first-year underrepresented students.

Platt has also been honored with the Diversifying Faculty in Illinois Fellowship from the Illinois Board of Higher Education, and the Diversifying the Spectrum of Opportunities in STEM Award from the Illinois Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation Program Symposium. She received Illinois State’s Commitment to Diversity Award, University Impact Award, Barbara Sizemore Research Award, and Donald McHenry Fellowship.

Platt earned a Ph.D. in higher education administration and a master’s degree in college student personnel from Illinois State. She is also a graduate of Wichita State University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
