For the past 51 years, Illinois State University has helped students transition from high school to life as a Redbird with Preview.

Over the course of two days, Preview eliminates those incoming freshmen jitters by helping students acclimate to their new home away from home. Students have the opportunity to explore campus, meet with their academic advisors to register for classes, and form long-lasting friendships through group activities. With the help of Illinois State’s Preview guides, students get a sneak peek at what their first year will look like as Redbirds.

“Being able to explore the campus and the community with other students was my first time feeling truly a part of my new Redbird family. It definitely set the tone for the start of my semester!” – Deja Whitt

On the first day of Preview, groups of approximately 30 students are introduced to campus as they partake in activities involving diversity, playing sports like volleyball and basketball, and getting to know one another through icebreakers. The following day, students discover Illinois State’s different departments and learn more about the Redbird community from Vice President for Student Affairs Levester Johnson.

During breaks, students have a chance to explore the Bloomington-Normal community, which ranks as one of the top 50 college towns in America based on the quality of life and arts and entertainment opportunities.

Preview helps introduce students to Illinois State University and remind them that they made the right decision when they chose to become a Redbird.

Recent public relations graduate Deja Whitt looks back on her Preview experience fondly.

“I had a blast at Preview,” Whitt said. “Being able to explore the campus and the community with other students was my first time feeling truly a part of my new Redbird family. It definitely set the tone for the start of my semester!”

These incoming students are excited to join the Redbird family at a time when the University has never been stronger. Illinois State remains a first-choice institution. Even with a strong enrollment of more than 20,000 students, ISU maintains academic quality and small class sizes.

After attending Preview, students leave with confidence knowing that Illinois State is a first-rate pick for continuing their education.
