A long-term plan to grow international student enrollment kicks off this fall. The first students recruited through the new INTO Illinois State University partnership will begin their careers at Illinois State in August. The partnership aims to increase the international student population on campus to 10 percent of overall enrollment within 10 years.

To help faculty members meet the needs of this expanding population, the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology will offer an updated version of its popular “Working with International Students” workshop on Wednesday, June 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Lunch is provided. Registration is required.

Language issues, difficulties in negotiating cultural differences, uncertainty when interacting with teachers—these are some of the unique challenges students new to the United States and U.S. higher education tend to encounter. Participants in this workshop will explore issues like these in depth. By incorporating the perspectives of international students in their teaching, faculty members will be able to anticipate challenges and help these newest members of our campus community thrive.

This event will feature the following facilitators:

Mayuko Nakamura, Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology
Kasia Stadnik, Office of International Studies and Programs
Yimin Wang, Office of International Studies and Programs
John Baldwin, School of Communication

Seating for this workshop is limited. Priority is given to full-time tenured and nontenured track faculty and academic professionals with teaching responsibilities. Registrants who are wait-listed will be contacted the afternoon before the event should a seat open. A $100 stipend is available for eligible participants.
