Balancing work with family life is critical to one’s overall well being, helping us be healthier and happier family members, students, and professionals. Did you know Health Promotion and Wellness offers programs to support family life? Health Promotion and Wellness provide programs including family activities and interactive workshops for expectant, new and seasoned mothers returning to work or school – all open to faculty, staff, and students.

Taking time out for activity play

Kids need it, teenagers need it, and adults need play! Sometimes as adults we get so busy we forget to take time to play, and sometimes even forget how to play. Before you know it a child in your life might be signing you up for How To Be A Kid 101. Play helps us connect with the lighter side of ourselves and bond more with our families. With this in mind, take some time to play and make some great memories with the following programs Health Promotion and Wellness has to offer this coming fall:

Family Swim and Family Climb dates and times:

  • Saturdays on September 8, October 6, and November 10 from 10 a.m. to Noon
  • Sundays on September 23, October 21, and December 2 from Noon to 2 p.m.

Family Bowling date and time: November 3 from 1 to 5:30 p.m. offered in 90-minute increments.

Also, mark your calendar for the annual free day at the Children’s Discovery Museum which takes place during the spring semester on March 10 from 1–5 p.m.

Supporting expectant, new, and seasoned mothers, as well as spouses/partners

Becoming a mother is an adventure in itself whether you are expecting or recently delivered. Extra support is often appreciated while navigating unknown territory in a sometimes uncomfortable or sleep deprived state. It can also be helpful and reassuring to connect with others building friendships for you and your baby, as well as walking the walk together. You will be happy to know Health Promotion and Wellness has placed these support systems for you right on campus. There are lactation spaces available on campus for breastfeeding moms returning to work or school, and Trish Wierenga, BSN, RN, IBCLC, RLC, is an experienced lactation consultant who facilitates the following fall offerings:
