In partnership with University Galleries and their current exhibit, Cecil McDonald Jr.’s In the Company of Black, Milner Library worked with the Chicago-based publisher Candor Arts on their own exhibit to showcase a variety of books they have produced, including McDonald’s. Life, learning, and healing: Candor Arts exhibition is running through October 14.

While the spectrum of media published varies widely—from memoir to photography, from dance collectives to poets—the authors are making work rooted in lived experiences and offering perspectives in how they have healed or what they have learned. Working closely in collaboration, each edition is driven by the author’s vision and the books and objects are produced mostly by hand in the Candor Arts studio.

On Thursday, October 4, at 4 p.m., Candor Arts Director and Co-Founder Matt Austin will be at Milner Library to discuss his work and the mission of his independent art book publishing company. The presentation will take place on Floor 6. Refreshments will be served.
