The Phoenix Challenge is a yearly packaging competition using the flexographic printing process to rebrand a small business. This challenge focuses on research, design, prepress, and print production.

The 2018 Illinois State University Phoenix Challenge team consisted of Kayla Mattson, Amanda Rapp, Christine Gesell, and Mindy Chan. Adam Burke was their faculty advisor.

This year’s team worked with Clarks Run Creek Gifts & Wine in Utica. The student produced magnets for the business to hand to its customers, thermal labels to put on wine bottles, and a corrugated box to hold a bottle of wine. On March 24, the team presented its project to a panel of judges from the graphic communications industry.
