On September 12, 2018, Illinois State University took leadership development and team building to new heights with the opening of the Redbird Adventure Center.

The new home of Campus Recreation’s Adventure program, the Redbird Adventure Center is located at 1700 W. Gregory Street in Normal. The $2.1 million facility includes a 5,500 square foot building and high ropes course. The building is the central base for equipment rentals and Adventure Trips and also features a meeting room that fits 68 people, an outdoor patio, restrooms, and a resource center to plan your trip.

The Adventure program is available to Illinois State University students, faculty, staff, and community groups and provides quality team building experiences aimed to provide personal growth and group development. Every team building program is designed to fit each group’s goals.

The High Ropes Course includes 27 different elements that range in height from 17 to 28 feet and was designed so that 80 percent of the elements can be accessible for people with disabilities. The course has two main components: the team course, and the dynamic course.

Both the team course and dynamic course are designed for groups of four to eight participants. The team course is designed for groups to stay intact while working on challenges that build trust and encourage problem-solving.

The dynamic course includes a series of stand-alone elements that are 25 feet high. On these elements, the group is part of the support system on the ground while one or two participants climb. This course challenges groups to find innovative ways to communicate with those at height, and to focus on trusting and supporting each other.
