During the calendar year of 2018, School of Communication (SoC) graduate students have been hard at work with research to contribute to the communication field. As the fall 2018 semester comes to a close, many graduate students are preparing to share their research with communication professionals on national and international levels.

Here is a list of SoC graduate students sharing their research and expertise at conferences this semester.

  • Hannah Trew and Emily Raschke: Trew and Raschke will be sharing their research titled “Your Existence is Inappropriate” at the 2018 National Communication Association (NCA) 104th Annual Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their research discusses the censorship of LGBT+ content on YouTube.
  • Jillian Joyce: Joyce will be sharing her research titled “Unwanted Relational Pursuit: Harassment Messages Online” at the 2018 NCA 104th Annual Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. Joyce’s research addresses the dark side of online communication.
  • Maddison Jansen: Jansen will participate in a forensics panel at the 2018 NCA 104th Annual Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. The panel will discuss the topic of abusive ballot comments in forensics tournaments.
  • Samantha Dunn: Dunn will be sharing her research titled “GIFT: Great Ideas in Teaching” at the 2018 NCA 104th Annual Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dunn will also be featured on a panel that will critically examine basic course in higher education.
  • Afshana Hoque: Hoque will be sharing her research titled “Memes of Modi: Analyzing the use of Memes in Political Campaigns” at the Third International Conference on Communication & Media Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Hoque will also be presenting her research titled “The Taste of Culture: A Qualitative Study on the Cultural Image of Food” at the Eighth International Conference on Food Studies at the University of British Columbia.
