Distinguished Professor of Marketing Steven Taylor will deliver Illinois State University’s Distinguished Professorship Lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 1, in the Old Main Room of the Bone Student Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Taylor is an internationally recognized scholar of service marketing research. His presentation will examine how marketing theory and research have changed over the last two-and-a-half decades. The audience will also get a glimpse of Taylor’s contribution to this evolution. Taylor’s research interests focus on the conceptualization and operationalization of the determinants of service value, service quality, and consumer satisfaction, and their impacts on ultimate consumer purchase behaviors and organizational strategies. His most recent focus has been the extension of these inquiries to e-commerce and e-business settings. Taylor embraced a wider and multi-disciplinary approach to the study of service marketing by focusing on judgment and decision making and social psychology literature.

His articles have appeared in numerous publications including the Journal of Marketing; Journal of Retailing; Journal of Consumer Satisfactions, Dissatisfactions, and Complaining Behavior; Journal of Business Ethics; International Journal of Service-Industry Management; and Journal of Health Care Marketing.

Taylor joined the Department of Marketing at Illinois State University in 1992. He received a Ph.D. and a bachelor’s degree in science from Florida State University, and a master’s degree in health service administration from Florida International University. Taylor is the recipient of several awards including the Manahan Award for Teaching Excellence (2001); the Illinois State University Teaching Initiative Award (1997); the Outstanding Researcher Award for the College of Business (1996-97); the Illinois State University Research Initiative Award (1995); and the 1993 Outstanding Ad Hoc Reviewer Award from the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science. He serves as a member of the editorial review boards of the International Journal of Service-Industry Management and Journal of Services Research. He also serves as an ad hoc reviewer for JAMS, Journal of Retailing, and Journal of Marketing, among others. Taylor has received Navy Achievement medals for distinguished service from the Secretary of the Navy and the Chief of Naval Operations.

The Distinguished Professor designation honors faculty who have achieved national recognition for scholarly research or leadership; been clearly identified by students, colleagues, or external agencies as an outstanding teacher; and have contributed significant public service within the academic discipline.
