On September 24, the National Academy of Televisions Arts & Science (NATAS) announced four Chicago/Midwest EMMY Awards nominations for Illinois State University’s TV-10 News.

Select TV-10 News students were nominated for Newscast, News: General Assignment, Arts and Entertainment/Cultural Affairs, and Sports under the College Student Production categories. This year’s four nominations is the highest TV-10 News has ever received from the Chicago/Midwest Chapter to date.

“Being nominated for an EMMY is incredible,” said Illinois State student and Arts and Entertainment/Cultural Affairs nominee Rosie Ainley. “Having this nomination shows me that my work is valuable and that nothing is impossible. That would have not happened without the help of the instructors in this program.”

TV-10 News anchor and producer Hannah Zettl was nominated alongside Ainley and received a nomination of her own for General Assignment. The School of Communication (SoC) student also received this year’s Branson/NATAS scholarship.

“Being nominated for an EMMY and winning such a prestigious scholarship is incredible,” said Zettl. “I owe it all to the great people at TV-10 News who create stories with me, teach me, and learn with me. This program has truly prepared me for the journey in television news I will begin in December.”

TV-10 News Director Laura Trendle Polus and TV-10 Production Coordinator Bob Carroll submitted stories for the Chicago/Midwest EMMY Awards during the summer of 2018. Trendle Polus and Carroll submitted pieces into five of the six student categories. Trendle Polus was very optimistic about submitting TV-10 News to compete with other local markets.

“Our students work hard and they believe in their work,” said Trendle Polus. “They pay attention to trends and they work as professional journalists for their local area, including ISU.”

TV-10 News nominees will travel to Chicago on November 10 to attend the 2018 Chicago-Midwest EMMY Awards Ceremony. The Chicago/Midwest EMMY nominations cover multiple market sizes in the Chicago/Midwest region, including major cities like Chicago, Green Bay-Appleton, and Milwaukee.
