Saturday, October 27 marked the second tailgate recycling initiative of the year. Office of Sustainability worker Millie Stevens led a group of eager volunteers around the ISU tailgating lots handing out recycling bags, and later on in the day, reusable Starbucks cups to the patrons who participated in the scheme. These are just a small “thank-you” for their help in making ISU athletic events more environmentally friendly.

The event was a great success! The Sustainability Team is constantly learning how to improve the initiative to continue to build upon the foundation they have set. They handed out over 120 recycling bags to tailgaters during this event, and are hoping to hand out even more at the next event. Right now the team is focusing on the lots immediately surrounding Hancock stadium, but as the initiative continues to grow, they are hoping to reach all lots that host tailgates.

They were lucky enough to have volunteers from the ISU Women’s Golf team helping out, and are grateful for their time and energy. Be sure to check out their events in the spring when the team resumes play! The next Tailgate Initiative will be held on November 17 before ISU’s final home game of the season. Thank you to all of you that continue to participate in this initiative!
