JoAnna Stephens Mink, volunteer library assistant at the McLean County Museum of History, will lead the next University Club meeting at 4:30 p.m. Friday, November 9, in the Founders Suite of the Bone Student Center. Mink will present “Going to the Movies: Local Historic Movie Theaters.” The event is open to the University community.

Mink’s talk will explore the movie-going culture, which became a part of American life back in 1915. The Normal Theater was the first movie house built for sound in the Twin Cities. Mink will discuss how theaters in Bloomington-Normal reflected the national trend and how popular tastes transitioned from vaudeville to “talkies.” Attendees will get an insight into how this national cultural phenomenon came about in local theaters.

All faculty, staff, annuitants, and guests are welcome to attend University Club, which runs from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Continued program support is provided by the Office of the Provost and the Office of the President.
