On December 7, the College of Applied Science and Technology (CAST) held its Three Minute Thesis competition (3MT).

The event gave students the opportunity to present their research work to the CAST community and judges, who are representatives from the CAST Research Committee. This year, CAST had seven student participants from the Departments of Agriculture and Technology and the School Kinesiology and Recreation.

After the presentations, two finalists were selected from the seven participants. Stephanie Stephens, from the School of Kinesiology and Recreation, presented on “Immediate Effects of Dry Cupping Therapy on Subcutaneous Hemodynamics and Pain Associated with Nonspecific Neck Pain,” and Fatima Mohammed, from the Department of Agriculture, presented research on “Extent and Determinants of Financial Inclusion among Agricultural Producers in Ghana.” The thesis chairpersons are Associate Professor Noelle Selkow and Assistant Professor Michael Barrowclough, respectively.

The two CAST finalists will compete for cash prizes in the Illinois State University 3MT competition scheduled for Thursday, February 28, 2019, at 6 p.m. in the Normal Theater. In addition to the cash prizes, the University winner will also have the opportunity to represent Illinois State at the Midwest Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) competition in April.
