Scott Kording ’02, an alumnus of the Department of Politics and Government, has been named associate judge for the 11th Judicial Circuit.

Kording graduated summa cum laude in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree, double-majoring in management and political science with a minor in economics. During his time at Illinois State, he was a student leader, serving as president of the student body and as captain of the mock trial team.  Kording was also named a Presidential Scholar, an Illinois Student Laureate, and a Robert G. Bone Scholar.

Following his graduation, Kording earned a J.D. from the University of Illinois, graduating magna cum laude, and receiving the Harno Scholar designation and three separate Rickert Awards for Excellence in recognition of his accomplishments. He also received a number of additional honors and awards while a law student at the University of Illinois. As a law student, Kording captained both the mock trial team and the national moot court team at the University of Illinois, and served as a member of the Board of Editors of the University of Illinois Law Review.

Kording has had a successful trial practice at Campbell & Kording Ltd., a law firm that he co-founded, and since 2016 at Meyer Capel. He has also taught legal studies classes in the Department of Politics and Government at Illinois State and has worked as an adjunct professor of law at the University of Illinois. He also served as head attorney coach of Illinois State’s award-winning mock trial team.
