Teaching the Cultural Wealth of Oaxaca, Mexico: Funds of Knowledge for the Twenty-First Century Classroom Summer 2019 Now accepting applications for participants (K-12 Teacher Education majors, in-service teachers, and administrators). Priority for those who work with Latinx students and families and/or teach Spanish language classes. Program includes language courses; workshops; fieldtrips in and around Mexico City, Oaxaca, and Puerto Escondido; and development of curriculum units.
- Credit: 6 hours of ISU credit towards education and Spanish coursework. (Only pay for 2 credit hours)
- Dates: May 30-July 1 (overseas) and pre- and post- trip activities.
- Housing: All participants will be housed with host families in Mexico.
- Application Deadline: February 8, 2019
- Cost: The Fulbright will cover for all participants: Airfare, room and board, travel excursions, and language classes. Out of pocket expenses: $1,200-1,300 for 2 credit hours, books, application fee (for accepted participants only), international health insurance; plus additional spending money.

Universities, Districts and Others Join Hands to Redesign Principal Preparation Programs Seven universities, school districts and other partners have succeeded in establishing strong working relationships that enabled them to jointly rethink and begin overhauling principal training, according to a report released today. The report by RAND, Launching a Redesign of University Principal Preparation Programs: Partners Collaborate for Change, examines the first year of a four-year, Wallace Foundation-funded effort to improve university school leadership programs so future principals can meet the demands of their jobs in the 21st century, especially how to lead schools in disadvantaged areas to improve teaching and learning. Apply for Funding to Expand Internet Connectivity in Schools ISBE released a Notice of Funding Opportunity/Request for Proposals for state funds to expand internet connectivity in schools. The General Assembly appropriated $16.3 million to fully close the broadband gap in Illinois schools by the 2020-21 school year. Fiber-optic technology delivers the most affordable and fastest network speeds to schools and allows districts to scale up cost-effectively and meet growing bandwidth needs. The $16.3 million in state funding will cover the costs of special construction projects for school districts with federal approval to install fiber-optic cable lines. Applications are available now and due no later than 4 p.m. on Jan. 25. The Learning Technology Center of Illinois is available to provide free assistance to districts to help with their applications.
