Meredith Harrigan

Meredith Harrigan of State University of New York (SUNY) at Geneseo will give a talk titled “The Fear of Missing Out (FoMO): Implications for Personal Relationships and Student Success” at 3 p.m. Monday, February 11, in Schroeder Hall, room 236.

The talk is free and open to the public.

Harrigan, an associate professor of communication, will focus on emerging adults’ experiences with the fear of missing out, colloquially known as FoMO. She will discuss how interpersonal communication theories, including Relational Dialectics and Facework, can help understand the ways in which students make sense of FoMO and manage the face-threatening nature of it.

The talk is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences Interdisciplinary Initiative and the ISU Interdisciplinary Research Group on Personal Relationships with assistance from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, the Department of Psychology, the School of Communication, the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, and the College of Applied Science and Technology.
