Heidi Verticchio

Heidi Verticchio has been recognized with the Council on Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders’ (CAPCSD) 2019 Distinguished Contribution Award!

The award is presented to individuals, agencies, businesses, or organizations in recognition of significant or sustained service or contributions to the council that have enhanced the Council’s ability to serve its membership or which have effectively enriched education in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Verticchio was nominated for this award because of her significant contributions to Medicare and supervision education to the council’s member programs.

Because of her extensive knowledge in these areas, Verticchio was invited by CAPCSD to present three nationally advertised webinars and five papers at the CAPCSD Annual Convention.

At Illinois State, Verticchio serves as the clinic director of the Eckelmann-Taylor Speech and Hearing Clinic. She has applied her knowledge in the clinic, and we now bill Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies. This change in billing practices is one that most university clinics have had to address in recent years.

Because of Mrs. Verticchio’s extensive pursuit of knowledge (she has received the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Award for Continuing Education three times since 2015) and hard work, CSD’s Clinic has been a pioneer in the area of appropriate billing practices, and many other clinics look to ours for guidance on Medicare compliance.

Not only is Verticchio a leader within CAPCSD and Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD), she is a known leader on campus. Most recently she was elected to a second three-year term on the University Administrative/Professional (A/P) Council and serves as the council’s treasurer and chairperson of their Scholarship Committee. At the college level, she served elected as the A/P representative on the College of Arts and Sciences Council.

“Heidi Verticchio is an extremely intelligent, hard-working person who is highly generous with her time and knowledge,” CSD Chair Ann Beck said. “She has been successful in improving our clinic’s business practices and services and our students’ educational experiences. I can think of no one more deserving of CAPSCD’s Distinguished Contribution Award. We are very fortunate to have her as a member of our Department.”
