Alumni can watch the extraordinary stunts and performances at this year’s Gamma Phi Circus spring shows, a Sibling Weekend tradition that features the oldest collegiate circus in the nation. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of Gamma Phi at Illinois State University in 1929 by Clifford “Pop” Horton which makes this year’s theme, Celebration, the perfect fit. Priority seating and ticket rates are offered to alumni and families for a limited time. Order those tickets and plan to get to the Redbird Big Top for Celebration.

When: 7 p.m. Friday, April 12, and 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 13
Where: Redbird Arena

Tickets

Special rates and priority seating for alumni (sections K, L, and M) are available for early purchase only through Friday, March 29. Alumni tickets are $15 for ages 13 and up, $10 for children ages 5-12, and $4 for children ages 4 and under.

Order show tickets at GoRedbirds.com/Promotions using the code GPCISU or by calling the Redbird Ticket Office at (309) 438-8000. Guests will receive order confirmations as usual, and the electronic tickets will be sent via email the week of April 1.

Thanks for letting us know about this wonderful event and celebration. I was Gamma Phi Circus queen in 1957, and I wonder if they will be mentioning the queen s during the celebration. Wish Bob and I could attend. We met at ISU and have been married for 58 yrs. We now live in The Villages, Florida. My maiden name was Pauleen Dombrosky. Now married to Bob Stockinger. Have a wonderful time. Pauleen (Paula) and Bob Stockinger

Hello Pauline! Thanks for your note. We have chosen several images from the Circus Collection of the Gamma Phi Circus Queens and courts as part of collages for our history through the decades. Wish you and your husband could come to the show too! We’ve got quite the celebration planned. We have over 100 members this year, and they are beyond busy right now with practices and putting final touches on their acts, and their costumes too! 🙂 If you send me your mailing address (to my email), I will send you a complimentary program for this year’s show. Will make sure our current troupe has your note and they will be cheered that you took time to write us. Take care, and GO GO Gamma Phi! Deb Wylie, Program Director, Gamma Phi Circus

  2. Louise (Glass) Forbes says:

I, Louise (Glass) Forbes performed on the trapeze in the circus in the springs of 1960, 1961, and 1962 when I graduated. I loved by time in the circus and would love to come for the 90th celebration, but I don’t think that my husband and I are up to the trip from Minnesota. I hope everyone has a wonderful time.

Hello Louise, Thanks so much for your note! The trapeze is one of my favorite acts and I can only imagine the wonderful feeling of flying through the air that trapeze artists experience. We will definitely have many alums in attendance at show this year, but we will be thinking too of all our alums that are with us in heart who won’t be able to be here in person. If you send me your address (to my email), I will send you a complimentary program. Best wishes to you and your husband, and GO GO Gamma Phi! Deb Wylie, Program Director, Gamma Phi Circus
