Legislator Forum 2019 Elevating and Modernizing the Teaching Profession 6–8 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2019 Advance Illinois invites you for dinner and a discussion about how Illinois law makers, education experts and advocates, and communities can help ensure that all students have access to the teachers they need to prepare them for college and career.
Teach to Lead will be hosting the 17th Teacher Leadership Summit in Philadelphia, March 29-31, 2019. As with previous “open topic” summits, the Philadelphia Teacher Leadership Summit will bring teacher leaders and other stakeholders together to collaborate, problem solve, and develop action plans to benefit students and schools. Teams must include at least one practicing classroom teacher, and idea submissions can address any perceived area of need in schools, as long as the plan leverages teacher leadership as a key strategy for meeting that need.
Education Innovation and Research (EIR) New Funding Opportunity for K-12 Innovation, Also Seeking Peer Reviewers The U.S. Department of Education’s EIR program provides funding to create or take to scale entrepreneurial, evidence-based, field-initiated innovations to improve the achievement and attainment of high-need K-12 students. There are three types of grants available: Early-phase, Mid-phase, and Expansion. This unique three-tiered grant structure links the amount of funding that an applicant may receive to the quality of evidence that supports the efficacy of the proposed project. There is $125 million is available for awards, and 25 percent of these funds will be reserved for rural applicants serving predominantly rural students. In addition, EIR aims to award at least $60 million for STEM education projects. In both of these cases, this funding will be contingent on the receipt of a sufficient number of applications of sufficient quality. Applications are due April 2, 2019.
Illinois Teacher Leadership Summit…an ECET2 and Powered by Teach to Lead Event April 5-6, 2019, Decatur Conference Center and Hotel, Decatur, Illinois. We are excited to announce the Illinois Teacher Leadership Summit. The summit is a great opportunity for teachers to develop concrete plans to solve local problems in their districts and network with other teachers in the state. Educators from across the state will work to collaborate, problem solve, and develop action plans to put their own expertise into action. Our hope is to attract exceptional educators from across the state to use teacher leadership as a vehicle to change the face of education.
GRANT OPPORTUNITY The P-20 Council Teacher and Leadership Effectiveness (TLE) Committee and the College and Career Readiness Committee are collaborating to launch a joint RFP to fund pilot grants that integrate the concepts of the Diverse Learning Exchange within Education Pathways. Livestreamed Event on the Impact of Building Principal Pipelines On April 8, The Wallace Foundation will release the results of a new, groundbreaking study by the RAND Corporation on the impact of principal pipelines on districts, principals and students. Join Wallace online from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon ET for a livestreamed presentation of the RAND findings and panel discussion among large-district superintendents.
Community Systems Statewide Supports (CS3) Updates The Partner Plan Act Collaboration Institute is gearing up to launch its application for the second cohort. The application will be open from April 1, 2019 through May 30, 2019 for supports starting July 1, 2019.
Engaging Families in Early Childhood Community Collaborations This training will help participants identify strategies to reach priority populations, empower parents, and sustain a welcoming environment for families. 2019 Partner Plan Act Conference: Equity from the Start Registrationfor the 2019 Partner Plan Act Conference is now open! The conference will take place in Bloomington, Illinois on June 11, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. This annual conference brings early childhood system stakeholders to learn, network, and deepen their community systems knowledge and skills.
Webinar on the Illinois Risk and Reach Project The CS3 team will be joined by Dr. Cristina Pacione-Zayas, Director of Policy at Erikson Institute on Tuesday, April 30 at 1pm for an hour long webinar. Participants will be introduced to the Illinois Risk and Reach Project and explore how they can use the data in their work. This webinar is meant for early childhood collaboration members.
Spring Into Action Conference The two-day annual Spring Into Action Conference at the State House Inn will take place in Springfield, Illinois on April 2-3, 2019. This year’s theme is Advocacy Everywhere: Using Our Outdoor Voices for Change. Attendees will have the opportunity to delve into key legislative issues through policy-oriented workshops and visit the state capitol.
Webinar March 29 New Data for Smarter Investments in Young Children The Illinois Risk and Reach Report provides county-by-county data on the well-being of children and the public resources available to them. Erikson Institute, along with the Illinois Governor’s Office of Early Childhood Development, will host a webinar to explore ways to use data on child well-being and publicly-funded resources found in this report to provide optimal conditions for children to thrive.
