Asian Heritage Week, April 8-12
The Office of International Studies and Programs, working with the faculty-staff organization AsiaConnect, will hold festivities throughout the week. All events are free, open to the public, and take place at the Illinois State campus.
Monday, April 8
Korean Cuisine Demonstration and Workshop
5:30 p.m. Turner Hall Food Lab, room 131
Chef Yongae Lee of Bloomington’s Seoul Mama restaurant will teach authentic Korean cuisine with a tasting.
Tuesday, April 9
History of Street Performance in Iran
5:30 p.m. Center for Visual Arts, room 30
Theatre and Dance student Shahrzad Hamzeh will provide a presentation with a question-and-answer session.
Wednesday, April 10
Filipino Martial Arts
5:30 p.m. Centennial West, room 301
Guro Sam Spence of Band of Brothers Martial Arts and Fitness will lead a demonstration.
Staged Reading of Yellow Inn
7 p.m. Centennial West, room 207
Translated by Kee-Yoon Nahm of the School of Theatre and Dance, this new English translation is directed by Myeongsik Jason Jang.
Thursday April 11
Origami: Japanese Art of Paper Folding

Participants can enjoy warm Japanese tea and confectionery while learning the art of origami with Mayuko Nakamura of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology.

Viewing of The Overture

View the 2005 film about a master musician who defends his talent and his family’s reputation against political interference and artistic challenges in this historical drama from Thailand. A question-and-answer session will follow with Gig Supanichrattana and Thunsinee Muangthong.
