It’s time to re-ignite the Association of Black Academic Employees (ABAE).

ABAE will be holding a Fellowship Reception from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in the Eleanor Kong Room in the Vrooman Center.

“The last several years, ABAE has been dormant, and several faculty and staff members have expressed an interest in bringing the organization back to campus,” said Lindsay Vahl, a director in Alumni Engagement. “A small group is working to get ABAE off the ground, and we love to have the help of others on campus.”

ABAE was formed in the mid-1980s to provide a community to discuss issues and concerns of black faculty, staff, and students, and to advance the interests of black employees on campus. “The Association has served in an advisory capacity to constituencies regarding the general welfare of all black employees at Illinois State,” said Vahl, who added, “It is a necessity for this organization to exist.”

The Fellowship Reception will provide an opportunity for those interested to connect. Brief remarks will be shared at 4:45 p.m. and light refreshments provided. RSVP for the reception, and opt-in to be kept up-to-date on the progress of the Association and future meetings by completing the ABAE interest form.

Upcoming events and ABAE news will be posted on the ABAE website.
