Paint brushes, rollers, color charts, and blueprints with the CTLT logo.

Whether your course needs a little touch-up or a full makeover, CTLT is offering a variety of cohort-based professional development opportunities this summer.

Join a diverse group of colleagues in a journey of exploration and insight as part of the 2019 Summer Institute! Sign-up is now open for several cohort-based professional development programs, offered through the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT). CTLT and its partner units offer stipends to eligible participants who complete a program. An individual may participate in one cohort (in addition to other single-day workshops) as part of Summer Institute.

Instructional Skills Workshop

ISW allows faculty to engage in reflective practices to help develop teaching and feedback skills. This intensive, three-day workshop is designed as peer-based instructional development where participants engage in participatory learning designed to develop skills and knowledge about student-centered learning concepts and strategies. Full-time tenure or non-tenure track participants who complete all three days are eligible for a $300 stipend.

Design Your Course (online cohort)

Design Your Course is geared for faculty in their first three years at Illinois State University. This workshop will help you develop effective learning outcomes, engaging learning activities, assessments which properly align to your assignments, and a welcoming syllabus…all in time for the start of the academic year. A $500 stipend is available to eligible participants who complete the program. This workshop is limited to 10 participants.

New for 2019, this workshop will be experienced largely online, with two face-to-face meeting dates.

Reinvent Your Course for Diversity

Reflect on your course content and explore how that content can meet the needs of the diverse student population at Illinois State University. Incorporate strategies that create a culturally inclusive classroom climate, while facilitating conversations that challenge students’ ethnic and cultural assumptions.  A $500 stipend is available to eligible participants who complete the program.

Give Your Course a Makeover

Breathe new life into your old course—one that you’ve “tweaked” so often that now it feels off-kilter or one you took over from a colleague but haven’t managed to make your own. This is an opportunity to address any of these problems by applying the basic building blocks of course design to create a high-quality, engaging learning experience that meets the needs of Illinois State University’s diverse community of undergraduate and graduate scholars. Ideally, it will be a course you can’t wait to teach! A $500 stipend is available to eligible participants who complete the program.

Apply before May 22

Going Global with Your Course

Design or revamp your course to make it more globally engaged, in keeping with the latest versions of Educate Connect Elevate: Illinois State and the University’s International Strategic Plan. Learn about common and effective approaches for creating global courses. Hear from colleagues who have recently gone global with their own courses. A $750 stipend is available to eligible participants who complete the program, funded and administered by the Office of International Studies and Programs.
