The Illinois State University Police Department (ISUPD) has earned accreditation from the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP). The program, administered by the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, affirms that ISUPD is following industry best practices for policing.

ILEAP accreditation standards cover administration, operations, personnel, and training. The accreditation process also includes an extensive review of departmental files and policies, an on-site visit by assessors, and public input on departmental practices.

“We are extremely pleased to have achieved this designation,” said ISUPD Chief Aaron Woodruff.  “The process is rigorous, but one that we welcome, as it reflects our commitment to following the best practices for the care and safety of our community.”

Established by the Illinois Legislature in 1957, the Illinois State University Police Department today consists of 29 sworn officers, and is one of the most progressive police departments, not only within Illinois, but throughout the nation. The department has been recognized by the Police Foundation, Police Executive Research Forum, Police Training Institute, International Association of Women Police, and the Russian Police University for its professionalism and high standards of training.
