As students return to the Illinois State University campus for the 2019–2020 academic year, they will have access to a new safety app, Safe Redbirds.

Safe Redbirds will replace Bird Watch as the official Illinois State University safety app. Safe Redbirds offers helpful new features such as virtual safe walk and friend walk, each designed to provide additional security to all individuals on campus. Students can now ask for a friend to monitor their walk home through their phone. The app also features a news feed and other emergency resources.

“We are excited about the wide range of capabilities this new app brings to campus. The ability to offer convenient, two-way interaction between campus safety partners and those we serve is yet one more way that we are helping create a safe environment for everyone on campus,” said Eric Hodges, director of Emergency Management.

The free Safe Redbirds app is now available for download from the App Store and Google Play. To learn more about Safe Redbirds and Emergency Management, visit EmergencyManagement.IllinoisState.edu or follow Safe Redbirds on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
