Open Access Week 2019 is an international celebration of the benefits of making information free, online, and open for all to use. This week gives campus the opportunity to learn, share, help, and transform the way research is conducted.
This year, Open Access Week takes place October 21–25. Throughout the week, Milner Library will highlight the importance of open access materials, information, and issues.
Paywalls and the Profiteering of Academic Publishing

5:30 p.m. at the Normal Theater
Presentation, Paywall documentary screening, and Q & A with filmmaker Jason Schmitt. This special event is part of the Illinois State University Speaker Series, and is a free event open to the public.
Pizza & Printing: Creating Open 3D Print Projects
Wednesday, October 23, from noon to 1 p.m.
Milner Library Floor 3
In this workshop, we will cover Milner Library’s 3D printing service and demonstrate the 3D printer. We will discuss websites where you can download files created by others or design their own files, and how to publish your projects online and make them available to the widest group possible. Pizza will be provided for the first 20 attendees. This workshop is open to undergraduate and graduate students. Please RSVP via Facebook.
Introduction to Text Mining with HathiTrust
Thursday, October 24, from 12:30–1:30 p.m.
This workshop will provide an introduction to text mining and visualization using tools and data provided through HathiTrust, the HathiTrust Research Center, and Bookworm. Open to faculty, staff, and graduate students. Bring your laptop, lunch will be provided by the library. Registration is required and space is limited to 10 participants. Deadline to sign up is October 18.
