Portrait of Mark Walbert

Mark Walbert

Mark Walbert, associate vice president for Academic Technologies, has announced plans to retire from Illinois State University on June 30, 2020. Over the next months, Provost Jan Murphy will work with other University administrators to develop a transition plan.

Walbert joined Illinois State in 1984 as an assistant professor of economics. He served as director of Faculty Technology Support from 2000 to 2003, prior to joining the Provost’s Office.

The Office of Academic Technologies oversees Learning Spaces and Audio/Video Technology, Tech Zone and Student Technologies, and the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (with Assistant Vice President for Academic Administration Yojanna Cuenca-Carlino). Additionally, Walbert coordinates and consults with the academic technology support units in each of the six academic colleges and Milner Library, and works in close collaboration with IT staff in Administrative Technologies and Student Affairs IT.

“Campus technology has changed dramatically over the past two decades, with great advances in student information systems, teaching technology, and access to the world through laptops and cell phones,” said Provost Jan Murphy. “Mark has played a key role in helping the campus adopt, and adapt to, new technologies. We appreciate his excellent leadership and wish him the best in retirement.”
