Honors
Geoffrey Duce, MUS, served as a judge at the 2nd American Classical Pianist International Competition, held at Hangzhou Normal University in China. He also taught a masterclass and gave a talk for the Sino-U.S. Music Education Symposium, held at the competition, about the Global Immersion Program at SouthWest University, in which he participated this past summer in Chongqing, China.

Chris Merrill, REC, The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announced on September 23 technology and engineering education professor at Illinois State, Chris Merrill as the 2019 ACTE Region III Teacher Educator of the Year. This makes Merrill a finalist for the ACTE National Teacher Educator of the Year.

Katie Pratt, University College, was honored as a recipient of The Pantagraph‘s 20 Under 40.

Ali Riaz, POL, received the Honor Award by Weekly Ajkal, a New York-based newspaper. Riaz was recognized for his outstanding political analysis on Bangladeshi politics. U.S. Representative Grace Meng presented the award.

Performances
David Collier, MUS, performed as timpanist with the Heartland Festival Orchestra and with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra in September.

Angelo Favis, MUS, performed in a guitar orchestra with the Grammy-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet at Wheaton College.

Adriana Ransom, MUS, performed a September recital tour of solo cello music at Grinnell College, the University of Nebraska-Kearney, and the University of Wyoming-Laramie. She also gave two masterclasses for college and pre-college students while in Wyoming.

Mark Grizzard, MUS, wrote “Castle of Light: A Snapshot of Latvian Choral Music as the Nation Turns 100,” which was published in the October 2019 issue of the American Choral Directors Association’s Choral Journal.

Michael Hendricks, POL, published “Resource Wealth and Political Decentralization in Latin America” in the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Politics (Oxford University Press).

Sudipa Topdar, HIS/WGS, published “The Historian Beneath the Skin: Embodiment as Methodology in Colonial India” in History Compass.

Lawrence Zigerell, POL, published “Critical Comment on ‘Revisiting the Asian Second-Generation Advantage’” in Ethnic and Racial Studies.
