For over 50 years, Phi Delta Kappa has been polling teachers and the public on the state of US education. The 2019 results have just been released and reveal a number of trends that grantmakers should understand. For example:

  • Half of public school teachers say they have seriously considered leaving and more would vote to strike, if given the opportunity.
  • Were a strike to happen, large majorities of parents and the general public say they’d lend support.
  • Most parents and teachers want schools to require students to study civics and say public schools should offer Bible studies classes as electives.

Join Grantmakers for Education as Celine Coggins hosts Josh Starr, CEO of Phi Delta Kappa International, and Ambika Kapur of the Carnegie Corporation of New York in a discussion to make sense of this new data. We will review the findings, analyze what’s behind the trends, and take your questions.

While others are welcome to attend, this event is intended for members and education grantmakers. There is no cost to attend this Grantmakers for Education program.
