UPDATE2020 Faculty Biennial: Performances, talks, workshops highlight exhibit at University Galleries

UPDATE: All events at University Galleries through April 12 have now been cancelled in coordination with the event organizers. 

University Galleries of Illinois State University is pleased to present the 2020 Faculty Biennial from February 28-March 22.

The 2020 Faculty Biennial presents work reflecting a diverse range of creative research by 36 faculty members and staff teaching during the 2019–2020 academic year in the Wonsook Kim School of Art and the Program in Creative Technologies (including Creative Technologies-affiliated faculty from the School of Music). The artists in the exhibition represent the areas of studio art, graphic design, art education, art history, and creative technologies.

Featuring painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, video, ceramics, textiles, glass, wood, sculpture, graphic design, game design, and virtual reality, the exhibition will also include multiple interactive works. All events are free and open to the public.

Members of the faculty have exhibited their work nationally and internationally and have received support from such prestigious entities as the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the Fulbright Scholar Program, the National Endowment for the Arts, Cité Internationale des Arts, and the Illinois Arts Council Agency.

  • Friday, February 28, from 5-7 p.m.
    Exhibition reception at University Galleries, featuring a performance by Shoshin Trio at 6:45 p.m.
  • Tuesday, March 3 at 5 p.m.
    Faculty Biennial lecture by Jam Rohr.
  • Wednesday, March 4 at noon
    Wonsook Kim School of Art Research Colloquium: James Mai.
  • Thursday, March 5 at noon.
    Faculty Biennial lecture by Mariam Graff.
  • Saturday, March 7 at 1 p.m.
    Tour and Workshop: Art Around You. Co-presented with the Children’s Discovery Museum. Register at childrensdiscoverymuseum.net
  • Saturday, March 14, from 10 to 11 a.m.
    Family artmaking workshop led by Tanya Scott, University Galleries’ Curator of Education. No registration required. Youth must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Monday, March 16 at 9 a.m.
    Stroller tour at University Galleries.
  • Tuesday, March 17 at noon
    Faculty Biennial lecture by Saskia Beranek.

Field trip program, curator-led tours, and workshops available by appointment throughout the exhibition. Stipends are available for K-12 schools or community organizations to offset the costs of transportation. University Galleries, a unit in the Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts, is located at 11 Uptown Circle, Suite 103, at the corner of Beaufort and Broadway streets. Parking is available in the Uptown Station parking deck located directly above University Galleries—the first hour is free, as well as any time after 5:01 p.m.
