In fall 2019, President Larry Dietz announced the building of the former Instructional Technology and Development Center as the location for the new multicultural center. This month, the Board of Trustees approved the transfer of the building to the Division of Student Affairs, as well as funding for the facility renovation. Renderings of the multicultural center are now available, as well as naming opportunities throughout the space.

“The multicultural center will serve as a space on our campus for our students to access the resources they need, to provide them a sense of belonging, and to be their home away from home,” said Dean of Students John Davenport.

The new floor plan features a multi-purpose room, gathering spaces, reflection room, meeting spaces, kitchen and serving area, and administrative offices for staff, student organizations, and satellite support services. The Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs is now actively seeking donors who may be interested in naming these spaces.

Vice President for Student Affairs Levester “LJ” Johnson shared, “It is our goal to represent multiple identities throughout the center. For students to be able see themselves represented throughout the space will be crucial in our ability to enhance their sense of belonging and pride in Illinois State University.”

In addition to giving opportunities within the multicultural center, there are numerous ways to financially support diversity and inclusion efforts at Illinois State. For example, the Student Affairs Diversity and Inclusion Fund provides resources for students to have the opportunity to improve academically, participate in opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable to them, and provide programming that maximizes their development as engaged citizens. The fund may also provide support for professional development opportunities, physical improvements, new equipment, and special celebrations and recognition within the Division of Student Affairs.

We believe that a gift of any size matters. Make your gift to the Student Affairs Diversity and Inclusion Fund to impact students in need. Donors who are interested in naming opportunities should contact Adam Ruble, associate director of development in the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs.
