Every month the Administrative/Professional (A/P) Council highlights an A/P staff member through a series of questions as another way for the Illinois State community to connect. This month readers can get to know Stacy Ramsey ’92, M.S. ’94, associate director of Enrollment Management.

As an associate director for Enrollment Management, what are your responsibilities?

I coordinate and assist with a variety of initiatives that support the recruitment and retention of students and our overall enrollment goals.  My job is never boring, as I am always working on something new and exciting with colleagues in EMAS and across campus. I also teach a section of IDS 128: Thriving in College, Career and Beyond. I really enjoy helping our Redbirds with the transition from high school to college life.

How long have you been an employee at Illinois State?

I have been a full-time employee for 26 years. However, prior to that, I was a graduate assistant and student employee as well. I started working in Vrooman Dining Center in 1988 in a striped smock and two hairnets to tame the big ’80s hairdo.

What do you love most about working at Illinois State?

I love all of the wonderful Redbirds (faculty, staff, and students) I have had the fortune to work with over the years. ISU is a special place, we are changing lives, and it is an honor to be a part of it.

When you’re not working, what are you most likely doing?

You will find me working on home renovation projects on our 1981 fixer-upper, and my favorite thing is hanging out with my family including my hubby, Bob, and kids, Jeffrey, Emily ’20, and Abby (a currently enrolled Redbird).

What is your favorite spot on campus?

I love the Quad and Redbird Plaza, especially when the grass is green and the flowers are blooming. Shout out to our grounds crew for doing an amazing job every year to make our campus look beautiful! I really love these areas of campus during Welcome Week, Homecoming, and graduation where the hustle and bustle, excitement, and school spirit make me especially proud to be a Redbird.

What is one thing people would not know about you?

Although some people know this about me, others may not. I was actually a part of the A/P Council from 2006-2014. I served the council as the Campus Communications Committee liaison, was a general member, and served as the vice chair and chair. A/P Council is a really wonderful advocacy group and is an important part of shared governance on campus. A/P Council holds a special place in my heart. Get involved; you won’t regret it.

What quote most inspires you? Why?

I have so many quotes that I love, it is hard to choose. “Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same.” (Flavia Weedn) My goal is to make a positive difference in what I do and in the lives of others.
