While emergency preparedness is important every month of the year, September is officially recognized as National Preparedness Month (NPM). This year’s NPM theme is “Disasters Don’t Wait. Make Your Plan Today.” And while it is true that everyone has been living out some level of emergency preparedness for most of this year, other disasters and emergencies can still happen, and it is always best to be ready.

This month, Emergency Management wants to remind Redbirds of some simple things that can be done to ensure they are well prepared no matter where they are. From having an emergency kit for a pet to having accessible backups to important computer files (a must for any student), being prepared means more than just having a flashlight in case of a power outage. The Safe Redbirds social media pages will be sharing videos over the next week with some helpful tips and reminders for staying prepared. Be sure to visit the Safe Redbirds Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram pages to view the preparedness videos.

As always, be sure to download the Safe Redbirds app to stay up to date on severe weather, crime alerts, campus resources, or review the emergency guide for fires, winter weather, medical assistance, power outages, and more. Stay safe, Redbirds!
