If your head is swimming with all the different educational technology out there, you’re not alone. Don’t be afraid! The EdTech Team has created a new team of Technology Integrationists (TIs) to help serve your needs. TIs have experienced a wealth of training across a variety of educational technology and have demonstrated an ability for creative problem-solving using technology-based solutions to work with faculty and support instructional technologies.
TIs are able to help free up College of Education faculty and staff to focus on more important things by researching effective technology to help you best serve your students. Our goal is to allow you to be the content experts by providing you with all the technology resources and training needed to effectively lead your classes.
“We’ve heard positive feedback from several faculty so far about how helpful our Technology Integrationists have been in assisting them,” said Angie Frazier, Flexible Learning Spaces coordinator. “We hope that faculty and staff continue to utilize our TIs to help them more effectively deliver valuable remote instruction to all students.”
A few examples of the most popular technology that our TIs have received training on are listed below. However, they are qualified to assist you on a multitude of technology. All you have to do is ask. Fill out a request form to schedule one-on-one time with a TI, or contact Angie Frazier with any questions.
Nearpod is a web-based teaching tool that allows you to create online course sites for K-12, as well as college-level learners. Features include interactive multimedia presentations, real-time content control, interactive lessons via PC, Mac, or mobile devices, student performance/engagement data collection, sharing/borrowing lessons with other educators, and passcode secured lessons.
Edpuzzle is a web-based interactive video and formative assessment tool that lets users crop existing online videos and add content to target specific learning objectives. Instructors can search the extensive library or upload their own videos to customize them with voice-overs, audio comments, embedded assessment questions, and additional resources.
Vosaic is a web-based platform that allows you to record videos using any camera or mobile device and securely share them with individuals or groups. Vosaic Forms will allow you to mark important moments for feedback, grading, critique, coaching, analysis, or video observation. This tool has proven effective in collaboration with students on development of lesson plans and reflection on teaching videos. The Department of Special Education is currently using it to reflect on teaching in some pre-clinical courses and is piloting how it may be used to support remote instruction.
Google Suite for Education
COE began offering a G Suite for Education pilot program in response to some faculty expressing interest in teaching Pre-Service teachers about Google Classroom. Moving forward, we plan to expand this pilot program to train additional COE faculty to teach G Suite to their students. Google Classroom is meant to be a part of the pedagogy for Pre-Service students who will likely use G Suite as they enter schools in their professional capacity. Support of G Suite is truly a collaborative effort. While the College of Education administers G Suite, technical support will be offered by IT directors in teacher education throughout campus and pedagogical support will be offered by faculty members from the initial pilot program. Zoom Live Transcribe
Live Transcripts (subtitles) are now available for all Zoom meetings/class sessions. This universal design for learning feature is built in, but must be turned on to be utilized. Jen Bethmann, web accessibility coordinator on campus, has put together an easy tutorial to follow. TIs also received training on creating accessible documents and remediation of existing documents for accessibility, and can offer assistance to faculty/staff in these areas.
