Illinois State University’s Department of Criminal Justice Sciences joins the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center to present a program that questions how “ordinary men” can be driven to commit atrocities.
Ordinary Men will be at 6:30 p.m. February 11. The free, virtual program will feature Christopher Browning, author of the book Ordinary Men: Reserve Police Battalion 101 and the Final Solution in Poland.

Browning will discuss the true story of how the Reserve Police Battalion 101 of the German Order Police became responsible for the mass killings and roundup of tens of thousands of Jews for deportation to Nazi death camps in occupied Poland.
Exploring a mixture of motives, Browning will examine group dynamics of conformity, deference to authority, role adaptation, and the altering of moral norms to justify their actions.
