Illinois State University Wonsook Kim College of Fine Arts offers Saturday drama classes online for children from kindergarten through sixth grade, January 30 through February 27.

The Creative Drama program develops skills in theatre through imagination, creativity, and exploration while using communication and collaboration abilities. Classes are taught synchronously via Zoom from 11-11:35 a.m. for each of the three sessions: grades K-1, 2-3, and 4-6. Cost is $30 per student.

Now in its 42nd year and overseen by School of Theatre and Dance Associate Professor Dr. Michael Vetere, Saturday Creative Drama classes have shifted to a shorter, online format due to the pandemic, but that doesn’t detract from its benefits. The online format allows for an opportunity for young people to exercise their imagination in the comfort of their own home. Participants can meet new friends and solve creative conflicts while working together and sharing dramatic ideas.

“Moving Creative Drama online provided us with a chance to integrate new storylines and innovative characters in suspenseful dramatic improvisational experiences,” Vetere said. “We also found new ways of engaging practical technology to allow kids to play and socialize.”
