Established in 2001 by David B. and Kay O. Williams, the award recognizes an individual who has made extraordinary contributions to the University in the area of technology and service. This award helps recognize Dr. Williams’ commitment to building a “technology-friendly campus” in support of learning, teaching, research, and creative activities at Illinois State University.

Grabb became a member of the Illinois State University community as a transfer student in 1997, and would go to on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the School of Communication. Grabb joined the University’s professional staff in 2002 as a software coordinator and multimedia developer for the Mennonite College of Nursing (MCN) where he would eventually be promoted to associate director of technology and managed the MCN Tech Team. In 2013, Grabb joined the College of Business (COB) as the director of technology and facilities effectively adding the facilities liaison and coordination role to his technology experience. In addition to managing technology, Grabb would manage the media and print production services of the Faculty Resource Center. Grabb has participated in two significant renovation projects with the COB that would result in the construction of both the Varner Institute and the expansion of the State Farm Hall of Business computer labs.

In 2018, Grabb was promoted to the role of executive director for technology and facilities at the College of Business to reflect the expanded nature of his operational duties. His university and community service has been varied, but he’s most proud of his work with the Continuous Improvement in Tech steering group and his time with the ISU Friends of the Arts. Grabb’s scholarly interests are technology staff development, multimedia, creative arts/technology, higher education technology leadership, and diversity and representation in IT.
